I created this cake for two friends with recent birthdays. One has an unabashed obsession with Twilight :) I styled the book, ribbon, board, and flower for her. The other loves fashion and shoes so the shoe and shoebox I did for her. Everything is edible: flower, ribbon, chess board, etc. (gumpaste and fondant) except for the inside of the book :)

Giraffe 1st Birthday Cake

The first picture is of a smash cake designed around the invitation. As you can see in the second picture, the smash cake has a fraternal twin, just like the recipients. The huge giraffe was the cake for the rest of the party...made of lemony vanilla bean cake and raspberry filling, it towered over the 3" smash cakes at over two feet tall!

Grocery Bag Art Splash Contest Entry

This was my entry in Carlsbad's 9th annual Art Splash. The theme was food and recycling, so I combined both and made a reusable grocery bag of fondant and gumpaste, featuring a mosaic of the Carlsbad beach, windmill, flower and strawberry fields, and Legoland. I "filled" the bag with a gumpaste container of local milk, gelatin grapes, fondant avocados, a gumpaste can of asparagus, and a candy clay baguette. I didn't win but fully enjoyed the process and my creation!
